Stupid Popularity Contests

I know these are short and not very exciting posts. It's because I have almost no time for such activities as blogging. I'll tell you about it later. But I figure a short post on something interesting is better than no post at all. Maybe it will keep you liking me.

Speaking of people liking people, apparantly there is some poll used to determine the Top Public Intellectual. This year the winner was Noam Chomsky.

First off, I think said poll is stupid and trendy. Academia is not American Idol. This is proven by the fact that while top "public" intellectual is the category, there is no way Chomsky should win. Granted, for a University Professor he has a fairly significant voice in the US. But Umberto Eco is clearly the intellectual heavy-weight of the bunch. And if you were going to compile such a ridiculous list, Vaclav Havel would have to be number one, because he has actually paid his dues as a political dissident (where dissidence could get you into real trouble, not just nasty names from the opposition).

Man, it's a good thing you posted becuase I had almost stopped liking you. Now, the decline of my affection has been halted. Better post some more to put it back on the rise.

OK, I'm neutral now. I could take you or leave you. It's like standing on the fulcrum of a see-saw.
