Here is an interesting set of articles on education in These United States. The first two make a certain degree of sense, but the third takes that, unfortunately, all too predictable jump into aristocratic thinking. I have no problem admitting that practically, yes, we live in something of an aristocracy. But that doesn't mean we should accept that as either inevitable or preferable. Such a position reinforces what I would loosely call alienation.
